Program Purpose:
Youth Build Long Island, a youth and community development initiative, provides unemployed young adults, ages 18 to 24, the opportunity to work toward continuing their education, learn job skills and serve their communities by building affordable housing, while transforming their own lives and roles in society.
Program Description:
Family Service League has collaborated with the United Way of Long Island and other community partners to implement Youth Build Long Island, a nationally renowned program to address core issues facing unemployed young adults. Through YouthBuild Long Island, young adults will obtain their GED, receive onsite construction training (an accredited pre-apprenticeship program), counseling, case management services and the opportunity to develop education, employment and valuable leadership skills needed to succeed in today’s society and have a positive impact in the Long Island community. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be offered a career opportunity in construction or a related field or to continue their education.
