There are many ways you can support our work

Ways you can give:

Family and Friends Annual Fund (Annual Appeal)
Each year FSL raises money necessary to fill gaps created by shortfalls in government funding, to help expand or enhance programs and services, or underwrite programs not covered by contracts or third-party insurance. You can support our annual fund in two ways.

  • Respond to our Annual Appeal
  • Make an unsolicited donation
  • Participate in one of our many fundraising events

Tribute Fund
Your contribution to FSL 's Tribute Fund lets you celebrate the milestone occasion of a loved one or honor the memory of someone special who has passed on. A commemorative card will acknowledge your sentiment and generosity.

85th Anniversary Campaign
In 2011, Family Service league will be celebrating its 85th Anniversary! Much has changed in those 85 years and FSL is committed to changing with the times. To reinforce FSL 's commitment to strategic growth, our 85th Anniversary Campaign is a fundraising program targeted at expanding both our programs and facilities and securing the future of our existing ones. This campaign consists of three components: Programs, Capital, and Endowment.

Family Centers
Funds directed at the expansion of the Community Center at the Iovino South Shore Family Center and the creation of new and expanded programs for our Centers of Opportunity.

Endowment Fund
Contributions to our Endowment Fund help ensure FSL 's continued efforts by developing a financial safety net providing a predictable stream of income. You can help secure our future as follows:
  1. Unrestricted Endowment -- The income generated from the principal can be used at the discretion of the Board of Directors to meet various needs of the agency.
  2. Restricted Endowment -- The income generated from the principal can only be used for the purposes stipulated by the donor.
  3. Named Restricted Endowment -- A named fund enables the donor to support a specific area of interest and have his or her name on the fund in perpetuity. A named fund can be established with a contribution of $250,000 or more.

Special Initiatives
The number of children who benefit from these special initiatives depends solely on the generosity of private donors.

Holiday Gift Boutique-- Businesses and individuals may donate new toys, clothing or gift cards that enable parents to "shop" -- free of charge -- for the gifts most appropriate for their children. Each year more than 4,000 children from low-income families benefit from our Holiday Boutique.

Back to School Boutique-- Your financial donation will enable us to provide new school supplies to children, from kindergarten through the 12th grade, whose families could not otherwise afford them.

CAMP Program-- Each year Family Service League sends between 400 and 500 children, ages 4 to 16, from low-income families in Suffolk County, to a variety of sleepaway and day camps throughout the tri-state area for an average of 2-1/2 weeks. These 2-1/2 weeks are often the only time during the year that these children get to experience the joys of childhood.

How you can give
  • Cash, personal check (made out to "Family Service League") or credit card.
  • Appreciated stock that has been held for more than one year, which you can transfer directly to Family Service League for immediate sale. Stocks that have sustained a loss should be sold first and the proceeds directed to Family Service League.
  • Planned gifts such as life insurance policies, trusts or other vehicles. Arrangements should be made in consultation with a financial professional.
  • Will bequests, which are among the simplest and most common of planned gifts. All that is required is to include the following wording in your will: "I give and bequeath to Family Service League the sum of $______, or the face value of _______ bonds, or _______% of my estate." (It is advisable to consult with your lawyer if you have any questions regarding the proper wording of your particular bequest.)

Gifts of personal property, real estate and similar assets must be in accordance with Family Service League's Gift Acceptance Policy. You should always consult with a financial professional or lawyer with regard to the tax implications of any gift.

For more information, or to make a commitment, contact FSL 's Vice President for Development, at 631-427-3700, ext. 250.
