The 2021 FSL Walk for Wellness will honor those we lost on
September 11th and recognize the actions of those who help heal our
community. Every individual lived through a unique situation that day
but there was common thread – people needed support. FSL Therapists
answered calls from community members and first responders around
the clock for months. This led to the formation of FSL’s Community Crisis
Action Team (C-CAT). Today, C-CAT counselors responds to traumatic
incidents, assessing the needs of individuals and groups who have
experienced a critical event in the workplace, the school, or in the
community. There is a 24-hour hotline 1-888-375-2228 and you can learn
more information about Support Groups by calling 631-650-0104.
Sometimes a grieving family will continue the good work of loved one
as part of their legacy. This was the inspiration for Kristy’s Smile Inc.
The foundation was motivated by the amazing spirit and compassion
of the late Kristy Irvine Ryan who tragically died in the World Trade
Center. Kristy and her friends had been FSL supporters for years. They
often gave surprise toys, new bedding sets, and pajamas to children
whose families struggling financially. Kristy’s kindness and willingness
to always think of those less fortunate had encouraged her friends and
family to continue this good work in her memory. Since 2007, Kristy’s
Smile has provided over $300,000 in funding to FSL by hosting annual
golf outings and fundraisers.
