NYS awards FSL federal funding to address Opioid Crisis in Suffolk County!

Huntington, New York

Family Service League (FSL), a Long Island based non-profit human service organization, is pleased to announce it has been recognized by New York State and Gov. Cuomo as a leading provider of vital substance abuse treatment programs in Suffolk County.  FSL has been selected to receive federal funding through the Opioid State Targeted Response Grant to expand critical initiatives to combat the opioid crisis. The funding will be used to enhance and increase community prevention and recovery services in an effort to reduce unmet needs and overdose-related deaths. “FSL is actively engaged in providing all Suffolk County residents with educational resources to help prevent addiction and supporting extensive treatment efforts with quality healthcare,” said Karen Boorshtein, FSL President & CEO. “These critical services offer access to recovery programs that help people live better and healthier lives.”

FSL’s new Mobile Recovery Center (MRC) is an NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) designated Center of Treatment Innovation (COTI).  FSL’s trained MRC team, which includes physicians, registered nurses, and social workers, respond to the individual or family in their home, place of employment, school; and, when applicable, diverts the use of hospitals and emergency rooms.  The MRC model of care provides comprehensive substance abuse and mental health assessments, diagnosis, and medication management in coordination with the development of a treatment plan that includes linkage to appropriate aftercare.  COTI programs increases access to treatment by utilizing peer supports, clinical services, and emerging technology to remove barriers which improve individuals’ engagement on their road to achieving recovery.
