Grant supports “Healthy Meals – Healthy Minds” After-School Program and builds a playground for children living in shelter

Family Service League is pleased to announce the grant award of $25,000 from The Nature’s Bounty Foundation, a 501c3 that is the charitable arm of The Nature’s Bounty Co

The Nature’s Bounty Foundation, located in Ronkonkoma, believes in enhancing lives and giving back to local and global communities.  The substantial grant supports FSL’s Brentwood Community School (BCS) After-School Program where students are given the opportunity to learn about nutrition through the hands–on experience of preparing healthy meals though cooking classes.  The FSL’s BCS students and their families benefit from the availability of on-site academic enrichment through the arts and a variety of cultural programs.  The goal is to increase student’s success in school by adding resources known to make a difference such as: increased parental involvement, enhanced learning opportunities, linguistically sensitive programs, consistent adult guidance, and access to health, dental & mental health services.

In addition to the generous grant, the Nature’s Bounty “We Give Back” employee initiative donated an abundance of outdoor playground items for the children residing in an FSL Family Shelter. Simultaneously, Nature’s Bounty employees donated their time to participate, mentor, and read to children at FSL’s Bay Shore Universal Pre-Kindergarten.

“We are happy to provide funding that supports opportunities and learning for those who need a helping hand,” said Beverly Lee-Wo, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility for The Nature’s Bounty Co. “We feel a responsibility to give back to our local communities, and are pleased to have wonderful organizations like FSL with whom we can partner.”

“Family Service League is proud to be working with The Nature’s Bounty Foundation.  Its commitment to the wellness of Long Island students seamlessly supports FSL’s goals of providing educational based enrichment opportunities that promote health and wellbeing.   The children and families who benefit from FSL’s programs and services are empowered to mobilize their strengths and improve the quality of their lives thanks to this type of funding and support.”                                      – Karen Boorshtein, FSL President & CEO
