Housing & Homeless Services

Family Service League’s housing programs focus on providing emergency housing and supportive services to chronically homeless individuals and families throughout Suffolk county. Homelessness is often the result of a disability, mental illness or substance abuse, and it can be a daunting task to overcome the effects of these crippling conditions while attempting to become self-sufficient. We’re here to help.

Offering emergency housing services to homeless families placed through the Suffolk County Department of Social Services, the program accommodates homeless families with a safe environment and the support needed to secure permanent housing.

More Information

This program matches homeowners who have an available bedroom with adults who need affordable housing.  Homeowners typically need financial assistance to remain in their homes or are in need of companion services, which would include light duties such as meal preparation, laundry, and grocery shopping.  The rent is determined based on whether companion services are needed or not.  Both models provide the comfort of knowing another person is in the home, which has been important to family members.  Both the homeowner and the home sharer are required to pay $112 for a background search if they move forward with the program.
