Internships

Today’s Interns Are Tomorrow’s Leaders

Are you committed to making a difference here on Long Island? Family Service League may have the opportunity you’re looking for. FSL’s internship programs work with social workers, mental health counselors, nurse practitioners, and psychologists.

The Community Advocacy, Information & Referral (CAIR) program works with social workers to support the diverse population of those in need on Long Island. It provides interns with the tools, information, and experience they need to make an even greater difference in the human service sector. This is a great opportunity for current undergraduate or graduate college students with a degree in social work, human services, psychology, sociology, or other related fields and for community members interested in helping their neighbors.

Timeframe
Interns are expected to work at least two full or three half-days each week. Any intern requiring a specific number of hours to receive credit or with time-off/vacation requests will be addressed on a case-by-case basis during the interview.

Applications
Completed applications must be submitted at least one week before the start of the session; all applicants must pass a background check.

Location
Internship positions for social workers, mental health counselors, nurse practitioners, and psychologists are often available at various FSL locations. CAIR internship programs are based in Bay Shore, Mastic Beach, Patchogue, Riverhead, and Huntington.

Orientation
A mandatory orientation will be held before your start date. This will allow interns to meet the staff and other volunteers, learn about FSL programs and services, and begin training on our electronic case management system.
